Dance bio - Paul hughes

Profession: Ballroom and Line Dance Instructor Dance Education: Studied dance at Arthur Murray, Metro Dance Studio, Fred Astaire, Radler Hamby Ballroom Dance Studios, and Supershag. Attended many coaching workshops and the Dance Teachers Club of Boston. Graduate of Boston College, 1984 with BA Degree. Experience: Provided classes and private instruction in Ballroom, Latin and Swing style of dances for Kids, Teens, Adults, Seniors and Wedding Couples. Taught line dance at various senior centers to help keep older adults vital and active. Since 2006 taught for several years about 800 5th and 6th graders in a Kids Ballroom Dancing Program each year, as part of the Physical Education Program in all 13 Cambridge Public Elementary Schools and in Ipswich. Featured in the Boston Globe and a segment on Chronicle on WCVB-TV about the Kids Ballroom Dancing Program. Taught hundreds of adolescents in a Social Dance and Etiquette Program in Weston, Dover, Brookline, Cambridge and Hingham. Ballroom Basics adult social dance program was featured on Wellesley Cable TV. Interviewed for a chapter in the book True Influence: The Magic of Human Connection by Tim David. Taught dance at Bridgewater State University, Mass College of Art and Mount Ida College, Needham and Stoughton YMCA. Seniors Centers in Canton, Medfield, Norwood, Needham, Wellesley, Waltham, Weston, Belmont, Randolph, Walpole, Sherborn, Newton, Natick, Lexington, Millbury, Marlborough, Northborough, Westborough, Hudson and Grafton. Recreation Departments in Walpole, Westwood, Weston, Needham and Randolph. Senior Living Facilities at Brookhaven in Lexington, Wingate in Needham, Brightview in Canton, Fox Hill Village in Westwood, North Hill in Needham and Newbridge in Dedham. Moseley's Ballroom in Dedham, Yarmouth Senior Center, Village Club in Needham, Good Shepherd Church in Dedham, Unitarian Universalist Church in Wellesley, First Baptist Church in Needham and Hazel Boone Dance Studio in Canton, Knights of Columbus Hall in Norwood and Needham, MA, Wellesley-Weston Lifetime Learning, Beyond Adult Day Health Center, South Shore Dancers, Randolph Intergenerational Community Center and Brookline Adult Education. Skills: Teach dance classes and private instruction in Ballroom, Latin and Swing and Line Dance style of dances for Kids, Teens, Adults, Seniors and Wedding Couples. Unique ability to break down basic fundamental dance step elements and utilize mind and body awareness exercises, so that beginners can understand and learn to dance quickly and easily. Accomplishments: Certified member and Ballroom Chair of the Dance Teachers Club of Boston (DTCB), American Society of Teachers of Dance (ASTD) and National Dance Council of America (NDCA). Awarded many trophies in American Smooth and Rhythm and International Standard and Latin American dance competitions. Won the Most Versatile Dancer Contest at the Stardust Dance Weekend in the Catskills in New York, showing knowledge and ability in 37 types of dance styles. Performed dance exhibitions as part of National Ballroom Dance Week, First Night Boston, New Year Needham and at various nursing homes to help uplift the spirits of the residents. Performed in two couple formations with his identical twin brother Peter, while changing partners during the dances.
